Luís Aguiar de Sousa

Luís Aguiar de Sousa is Research Fellow in the Nova Institute of Philosophy at the Nova University of Lisbon. He was awarded his PhD in 2013 with the doctoral dissertation The Self-Knowledge of the Will: A Study of the Concept of Subjectivity in Schopenhauer’s Philosophical System. Since then he authored many research papers on Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, and Merleau-Ponty and was the editor of two volumes, Phenomenological Approaches to Intersubjectivity and Values (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2019) and Violence and Nihilism (de Gruyter, 2022). His research interests cover various topics, including the nature of the self and consciousness, the philosophy of agency, and nihilism. At the moment he is working on the relation between Schopenhauer’s and Nietzsche’s philosophies.
